Andrew Schloss
I am especially interested in how design, technology and environment can directly influence human experience and shopping behavior, corporate identity and brand loyalty.
My professional background is unique, tracing a path from athletic equipment design to product design, corporate and retail identity and branding, the design of luxury retail and other branded interiors, hospitality, furniture, lighting, graphics and design education.
My design experience includes over 200 retail specialty stores, concept shops, showrooms, exhibits and other branded environments, and includes work for Speedo, Penhaligon’s, The American Craft Museum, Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani and others.
Currently, I am Creative Director, and partner of Reinstein|Ross, Goldsmiths, a progressive and contemporary fine jewelry manufacturer and retailer with two marquis stores in Manhattan – Madison Avenue and in the Meatpacking District on Gansevoort Street. At RR I am responsible for all design and branding strategy and implementation - including interior retail design, display, graphics, digital presence including all social media, art direction, marketing and advertising, staff/client interaction, work with wholesale partners, and all elements related to brand experience and jewelry sales. I also work closely with the president on all strategy for new product design/line development, seasonal presentation, promotion and brand evolution. Our stores are designed to be a totally new and unique luxury shopping experience. Our workshops – goldsmiths with saws, torches and hammers – are located inside of our fine jewelry stores, and this controlled chaos is a part of the culture of RR. It is something that is surprising, yet wonderful and fascinating to watch.
Prior to joining Reinstein|Ross in 2008, I was president of my own design and branding firm, ABS Design. Our work focused on retail interiors, corporate interior design, exhibit and POP, lighting, product design, graphics, branding and identity. Our clients included Penhaligon’s Perfumers, Sony Pictures, CBS, Lego, Calvin Klein Underwear and Jeans, Starwood Hotels, W, Westin, Aloft, Artemide, and many more.
Throughout my career, I have also been involved in design education, teaching for twelve years in the Industrial Design Department at Pratt Institute and for the last six years in the Products of Design MFA program at SVA.
I am best when leading and inspiring creative teams. I am proud of my ability to work with real-world constraints to implement big, fresh and progressive ideas and see them through to actualization.
This is an exciting time in design. Innovation, changing shopping habits and digital media have opened a world of possibilities. Today, anything is possible, anything is buildable and people are receptive to progressive thinking and exciting, but genuine new ideas.
